Web Development: DIY or SOS?

You’ve opened a business and you want to advertise about it in the Internet. Or, you’ve got a new boyfriend and you want to share your happy memoirs in your personal homepage. Then again, you may just be especially fond of canines and you want to open an online forum that would gather all dog enthusiasts like yourself in one big cyber community.

Whatever the reasons, bottom line, you need a website.

The question: Can you do it yourself or is it better to ask a professional?

Now, web development is a process that’s relatively easier compared to, say, studying the basics of quantum physics. But that’s my opinion. It can be different for other people, of course, so the best way to answer our question is to review both options objectively.

WEB DEVELOPMENT: DO IT YOURSELF!

Are you aware of the extremely popular series of orange colored manuals, entitled The Idiot’s Guide To…? Yes? Well, if you prefer to tackle web development all by your lonesome, you could check out manuals similar to what I’ve mentioned. The best way to understanding web development is to not pretend knowledge about it. If you’re a novice when it comes to web development, so be it. That’s why we have The Idiot’s Guide and other similar books. Secondly, there are also a lot of free online tutorials available in the Internet. Be patient and browse around until you hit upon the right article. All it really takes is a good teacher and a willing student and you’ll be a pro in web development in no time.

If, however you’re completely averse to accepting outside help – and we shan’t even wonder why – that’s okay because learning web development can easily be managed through a method of trial by error. Whatever software you’re using to create your website, there will always be a Help button that’s just a click away and explain to you whatever needs explaining.

WEB DEVELOPMENT: HELP WANTED!

On the other hand, if you’re the type who’d welcome as much help as you can get with web development then that’s alright, too. Like I always say, we’re all created uniquely which also means we don’t possess the same abilities. If you need help, there are a lot of web hosting sites that offer ready made layouts. All you have to do is upload the content, customize the colors, edit what you want to edit and voila! Naturally, since these layouts are free, you have to make do with the ads and banners they’ll be posting in your site.

You may also try considering hiring out the services of a professional web developer. Albeit somewhat costly, doing so would at least ensure that you’ve got a great website in the end!
