A Guide to Computer Upgrades and
Modifications
If the world can be divided between vanilla and chocolate lovers, it seems that the smaller world inhabited by computer enthusiasts can be divided similarly between software experts and hardware lovers. It’s seldom that there are individuals who have one foot on each side but they do exist.
If, however, you’re one of those software lovers who are now interested in upgrading your computer to make room for more advanced software and programs then you absolutely need this guide. This guide shall serve as your checklist when you start upgrading and modifying your PC desktop.
Reason for Upgrading
Why do you have to upgrade your computer or what makes you want to upgrade
and modify your computer? Is it because you feel that your computer is
running too slowly for your liking? Or maybe you’re just lacking
in disk space? Or perhaps you’re about to use your computer for an
altogether different reason?
Your reason for upgrading shall determine whether you only need to change one part of your computer or the whole central processing unit (CPU).

Casing
Let’s start with the computer casing, okay? This is after all the easiest
thing to decide on. Do you want your computer to have the typical ATX casing?
Or perhaps you want its slimmer version, micro ATX? But if you really want
your computer to be top of the line, you may want to check out the barebone
casing. This comes with a motherboard already and some models also have Hi-Fi
so you can use it as a stereo if you so prefer.
Motherboard
The motherboard, if you don’t know, is the one that holds everything
together. This makes sure that all parts of the computer – from the
video card to the processor down to the chassis fan you’re using – are
compatible with each other. Your choice of motherboard also depends on what
use you have for your computer.
Video Card
Graphics, graphics, graphics! That’s what video cards are all about.
This is especially important if you want to use your personal computer for
gaming purposes. When purchasing a video card, make sure that it has SLI
capabilities so that you can use a second video card in the future if you
want to upgrade some more.
Processor
The processor is responsible for everything that happens inside the computer.
When purchasing a processor, although Intel Pentium is said to be the
best – and
it is, in more ways than one – if you are going to use your computer
for gaming purposes, you might want to try out Athlon processors because
they’re specifically built for that reason.
Good luck and have fun upgrading your computer!
