Which Type is Right?

Web hosts allows the use of space and other features on their server by their clients. Some Web hosts also offers services that they do not own.

Web hosting companies often provides payment for Web Hosting services. The free services are restricted and limited and is generally used by the company for advertisements or downloading softwares. There are many free as well as paid hosts in the Internet.

Web hosting is generally enough to build a personal home page. The more complex ones require more packages like support for database and development of applications. The hosts may also offer other services like email or discussion forums.

There are web hosting companies that focuses on programs and other amenities.

Web hosting maybe divided into the following categories of web hosts::
• Free hosting. This type of hosting offers limited space. Web site companies place advertisements on your site. Traffic as well as disk space is tight and limited.

• Image hosting. This is similar to free hosting but it requires users to register. Images are uploaded on the web host’s server so that disk space and bandwidth on your site is not wasted.

• Shared hosting. A web site runs on the same server running several other web sites. All sites shuts down when a problem with the server occurs. It also provides restictions but these are not as restrictive as that of free hosting.

• Clustered hosting. It offers the advantages of a dedicated server but at a comparable price of the shared hosting. It eliminates the problem of shared hosting by breaking up traffic up to ensure optimal performance for all accounts.

• Reseller hosting. Similar to shared hosting, where a reseller runs on the same server as other resellers. A large amount of space and bandwidth is provided so that the reseller can put in as many sites.

• Virtual Private Server (or Virtual Dedicated Server) hosting. This type of hosting gives a single server the capability to accomodate several Virtual Environments that run like a remote stand-alone server.

• Dedicated hosting. This is an expensive type of host since the dedicated server will have to be bought by the user. These servers perform one specific task and offer no restrictions.

• Colocated hosting. This is the most costly option of a host. This type of host provides the needs that dedicated or shared hosts cannot.

Web hosting services are varied and dependent on the needs of the clients.
