Determining Your Hosting Needs

Finding the best deal that can meet web hosting needs is very easy since the Internet provides a lot of choices in the web hosting market.

Before you delve into looking for a web hosting company, it is advisable to study what your needs are. Some web hosting plans offer many things and everything. At a low price, one would be tempted to bite into the web hosting company’s offer.

1. DiskSpace. On the average, web pages (html) are normally very small about 40-50 MB. With a small amount, a lot of web pages can be stored. Graphics usually take up more space. Unless you intend to have a huge site, 20 MB of disk space will be more than just fine.

2. Bandwidth. Bandwidth, measured in terms of GB or MB, is the amount of actual data that travels from the web server of your website to the browser of the person visiting your site. Going over the limit means you will either be charged an additional fee or your website will not be displayed.
Web hosting companies offers unlimited bandwidth which seems impossible because most web sites do not require much bandwidth. More bandwidth means more money wasted for the web hosting company. In reality, websites use less than 2 GB of bandwidth in a single month. More downloads need more bandwidth. In most cases, however, a low bandwidth is more than okay.

3. Email Accounts. Email support is another consideration in determining your need. The usual number of email account is 10.

4. Support. Operation in a web site is always critical so that technical support is sometimes needed. Try to assess everything. If you think your website will work even without 24/7 technical support, then you probably won’t need it. Providing technical support costs web hosting companies.

5. Server Type Determine what type of server you would actually want to use. Windows 2000 costs even more than Linux. Small websites actually do not need a particular server for their website. If you are ignorant about these types of server, then you will most certainly be okay with any server.

6. Other Features like Databases, Server Side Scripting. Small websites do not actually need highly complicated features. Web designers creating intricate databases already have a knowledge of what they need. Do you need to have message boards? Then your website will require mySQL software running in your computer.

Web Hosting is critical to a web site. The more features it has, the more visitors it will generate. If you don’t know what you need, it will be helpful to consult the help of someone who has knowledge.
