Tasting Each Flavor of Web Hosting

It’s not as simple as buying from your daily ice cream truck. When shopping for the best web hosting plan, it’s similar to ordering for your drink in Starbucks. The questions can and must go on and on till you hit upon the right blend and flavor.
The first step of the process requires understanding which features you need your web hosting plan to have. These include factors such as the number of email addresses you need, the amount of disk space and bandwidth as well as the server type used by the web hosting site you have your eye on. But as I said, that’s just first step, the tip of the iceberg, shall we say.

The next step to take is learning about the different types of web hosting.

FREE WEB HOSTING

Contrary to popular opinion, not all free things are good mainly because not all good things are for free. So it’s not that we have anything against free web hosting but more of, are free web hosting plans capable of providing you with all your needs satisfactorily?

Free web hosting necessitates the appearances of pop-ads, banners, text ads and other forms of advertisement in every page of your website. Bandwidth access and disk space is severely limited and you naturally do not get free email addresses when choosing this type of web hosting. Reliability of the web hosting site is also not recommended or guaranteed.

SHARED WEB HOSTING

You pay a small monthly fee and you then obtain a certain amount of disk space and bandwidth access for your website. The degree of reliability is of course better compared to that of free web hosting but when compared to other high-end web hosting types, it may still not be up to par.

DEDICATED WEB HOSTING

With this kind of web hosting, you’re actually like a web host yourself because you can opt to host and set up other websites with the use of your server. This type of web hosting lets you have a full server completely dedicated to all the needs of your website. This is usually preferred by websites that need extremely high bandwidth due to the daily traffic they get.

COLOCATED WEB HOSTING

I know. “Colocated, what?” I had the same reaction too because it’s not a word that’s part of our daily vocabulary. Colocated web hosting is not much different with dedicated web hosting, except in this case, you own the server and not just renting it.
